The Leesburg Regatta is possibly the most exciting format for sprinters on our 2025 schedule. Unlike all other regattas where races are conducted in Heats or Rounds, Leesburg is Back to Back.

 

The format was  each boat raced cumulative times for two 200m and one 400m sprint.

The Warriors entered a womens 10, mens 10, and a two mixed 20.

 

Now the format. After the 1st 200 is run, the paddlers stay in their boat, return to the start line and go again!!  Sprinters heaven.

 

After a break the course is stretched to 400 meters. And that sprint time is combined with the 200’s for the winners time. So every second counts, every stroke in every race means something!

 

Race Day:

The weather was hot, but magnificent. Calm water and fierce competition.

 

The Women were the class of the entire regatta, Putting on a clinic for speed with complete synchronization.  They posted fabulous times and their combined results earned them the GOLD MEDAL.

 

The Mens 10, delivered an impressive 200m time in its 2nd race and sprinted out  a fast consistent effort in the 400m.

But  their competition, Blackheart, were the better team that day. The Warriors finished second and earned the SILVER MEDAL. 

 

The Mixed boat raced well and delivered a solid handful of races, earning the BRONZE MEDAL.

 

To finish the regatta PanAm, the race organizers, staged a 100m,  CHICKEN-in-the-BASKET sprint. What fun. The women won the GOLDEN CHICKEN.

 

Lee had the team huddle up after the race, and said: “ you did it again. Three boats earned medals.  Women Gold, Men' Silver and Mixed Bronze.”

 

Then with a small laugh he said…”and most of all the GOLDEN CHICKEN.”

Be proud, you were true Warriors today.”
